Hungry Readers Book Group: Join us on September 16 at noon for a discussion of Nine Essential Things I’ve Learned About Life by Harold Kushner. Amazon’s blurb about the book says, “Offering readers a lifetime’s worth of spiritual food for thought, pragmatic advice, and strength for trying times, [Kushner] gives fresh, vital insight into belief, conscience, mercy, and more. Grounded in Kushner’s brilliant readings of scripture, history, and popular culture, Nine Essential Things I’ve Learned About Life is practical, illuminating, and compulsory advice for living a good life.” The book is available at Seattle and King County libraries, and there are many affordable copies online as well as an inexpensive Kindle edition. We hope to see you at our September 16 brown bag lunch gathering.
International Day of Peace: The Bainbridge/North Kitsap Interfaith Council is planning a sunrise service of prayer at the large picnic shelter at Faye Bainbridge Park on the International Day of Peace, Saturday September 21 at 6:45am. We’ll watch the sun rise, soak up some rays of hope, pray for peace to prevail on earth, and share a potluck picnic breakfast together. Please join us, and invite your friends of every faith to come along.
CROP Hunger Walk: Hey all you intrepid EHCC walkers—fall is in the air (well, nearly!) so that means it is almost time for the BI/NK CROP Hunger Walk. For the past 20+ years, the Bainbridge Island faith communities have gathered for one Sunday after noon in the fall to raise money to support Church World Services’ hunger alleviation efforts, Helpline House on Bainbridge Island, and Fishline in Poulsbo. The CROP Walk will be held on September 22, beginning at 2pm—and starting right from the steps of EHCC! We’ve hosted the start and end of the walk for several years now, and our congregation is always one of the top fundraisers for the event. Look for more information coming from me (CROP recruiter David Beemer), and let’s show off our great enthusiasm for CROP! For more information, contact me at 206-715-3901.
