June 3, 2010

To the Congregation of Eagle Harbor Church and the Parents of the Youth Group,

It is with the utmost sadness that we are writing this letter to let you all know that because we are moving, we will be resigning from our position at Eagle Harbor at the end of August.  We want to make sure that everyone knows that we are remaining in our current position through August and are available in the same capacities as before. We will still be attending the mission trips, the church services and any other summer events just as we would have.

We cannot begin to express to you the mixed emotions we feel about this transition in our lives. Many of our family members have planned on moving to the Big Island of Hawaii for several years and after living without them off and on for these last months we have made the decision that it will better for our family as a whole for us to move with them. We are excited for the changes this will be bringing to our lives, but sad for all that we will be leaving.

Working at Eagle Harbor has been an amazing experience for us both. We expected to love the youth, but did not expect to fall in love with the church like we did. The staff is wonderful, and we have learned so much and grown spiritually working with them. Truly, as is said at every service: Eagle Harbor is an open and affirming church.

We are so thankful for the opportunity you have all given us to serve the youth. And we are grateful to the congregation, parents, and staff who have supported us throughout our service to the church. We know this will be a difficult time for everyone especially many of the youth, please do not hesitate to call or write to Dee, Elise or Zach wi th any questions or comments.

Continued Blessings,

Zach and Elise Pratt

EHCC Youth Groups get together for a regular weekly meeting and periodically for special events. When we’re together we:

  • Have Fun: We have movie nights, go on field trips, celebrate festive occasions together...
  • Explore: We discuss all sorts of aspects of faith and Christianity (and other religions!) including how faith/religion affects our lives. We ask lots of questions; we don’t have all the answers.
  • Do Service: We help out at church and in the community: from church projects to befriending the elderly and shut-ins to volunteering with Helpline House and the Streets of Seattle...we care about the needs of others!
  • Worship: We pray and praise together. And we prepare an annual Youth Sunday worship service.
  • Go on a Mission Trip: Every year those of us in the Senior Youth Group participate in a mission trip specifically geared to helping a community in need. This is a highlight of the year

EHCC Youth Group = Pure Awesome

Here at EHCC, we are of the philosophy that it takes an entire village to raise a child; and what a wonderful village we have! We gratefully encourage and accept the volunteer assistance of Wednesday evening cooks, guest meeting facilitators, field trip and mission trip chaperones, etc. Please talk to us about how you can be a part of our program!

EHCC underwrites much of the cost of the youth group program in its annual budget. However, families are asked to contribute to the cost of Wednesday evening dinners on a per week or per quarter basis And some activities may have an additional fee, such as ferry or event tickets and special meals. The annual mission trip is covered through a combination of Youth Group fund-raising and family contributions. Scholarship assistance is usually available upon request for any of the above mentioned situations.
