At EHCC we offer several opportunities to stretch the mind and spirit with a smaller group of people.

  • Bible Study: The Bible Study fellowship meets Tuesdays during the school year from 9:30-11am in Dee's office to discuss the texts that have been assigned by the lectionary for the following Sunday. Pastor Dee Eisenhauer or Pastor Emily Tanis-Likkel usually lead the study, using the Seasons of the Spirit curriculum as a resource. The curriculum leads us to connect the ancient texts with our day-to-day experiences. The wisdom of the class participants enhances our understanding of the faith as we share our ideas and stories. Newcomers are always welcome. No pre-requisite knowledge of the Bible is required. BYOB (Bring Your Own Bible), or we’ll loan you one if you need it.  Click on Worship with Us to see weekly  lectionary/scripture readings.

  • Choir: We’re a multi-age group with a variety of singing experience. We’re open to any and all who’d like to explore and expand their vocal interests and talents.  For the new season we practice Thursday evenings, from 7:00-8:15pm and Sunday mornings at 8:30am before worship. Some of us also participate in smaller group ensembles who perform periodically before the congregation.
If you're interested in singing with us, contact Alice Tawresey or Carol Estes.

  • Hungry Readers.  The Hungry Readers group meets monthly on the 3rd Monday of the month at 7pm in the Singer room during the school year.

We will meet Monday, February 15th at 7:00 p.m. in the Singer room to discuss The Wounded Prophet: A Portrait of Henri J. M. Nouwen, by Michael Ford.
Henri Nouwen, a Dutch Roman Catholic priest, was one of the most beloved and important spiritual writers of the twentieth century. Since his death in 1996, his stature has only increased; and his books, including The Inner Voice of Love, The Wounded Healer, and The Return of the Prodigal Son, have become cherished classics. For thousands of readers around the world, Nouwen’s influence as a teacher and author is considered equal to, or greater than, that of the century’s great spiritual writers, C. S. Lewis and Thomas Merton.
Although Nouwen could be radically revealing about his personal thoughts and struggles, there are nonetheless gaps in our understanding of who he was.
With Wounded Prophet, readers are given the first extensive look into this man who touched so many, not only through his own words but, most powerfully, through the eyes of those around the world who knew Nouwen best. While researching this compelling biography, BBC producer Michael Ford conducted wide-ranging interviews with Nouwen’s friends, colleagues, and family members. What he discovered was far more compelling than what he had imagined: Though Nouwen was indeed the generous and loving man many thought he was, he was also never able to find consistent peace in his own life. Tormenting him were profound feelings of anxiety, insecurity, and loneliness. This portrait gives an honest and well-balanced account of Nouwen’s life that leaves no stone unturned, investigating his childhood, his family, his sexuality, and his life as a priest and member of the L’Arche Daybreak community in Toronto.

  • Mary Martha Lunch Bunch.  The Mary Martha Circle has decided to change its name to Lunch Bunch to become more inviting to all women of the congregation. We meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month during the school year .  We will still have our short business meeting at 11:30am, but we invite anyone who would like to come for a casual lunch to join us at noon.  Bring a salad, yogurt, or a sandwich, and we will furnish coffee and dessert.  We will occasionally have short programs and we always have friendly conversations.

  • Men’s Breakfast: We meet from 7-8:20am every Thursday (except major holidays) in our fellowship hall. We partake of a simple meal of oatmeal and fruit, and enjoy conversation and, often, a program by one of our attendees or a guest we’ve invited. The group is secular in nature, comprised of many philosophies, faiths, and beliefs, and there is amazing expertise available, regardless of the subject. All men are welcome.

  • Spiritual Quest Groups: These are gatherings of 5-12 committed people who want to share more intimately some of the concerns and thoughts in their journeys of faith. Quest groups foster growth of self-knowledge and greater love and appreciation for the others in the group, and beyond. If interested in joining or forming a group, please call the church office.  We can make format recommendations, but each group is free to determine what works best for it.  Please contact the church office if you're interested in joining a quest group.

For more information on any of the above groups, please call the church office.
